CHARITIES 2014-2015

We have two local charities.

"Do Unto Others" was held on the night of 8 December 2014.  The crafts and arrangements made on that night by the members were donated to Genil (a service provided in Maynooth by John of Gods) for their forthcoming Sale of Work.

Our second local charity is Lorine House to whom we are donating art materials for their own workshop.

Our AOIFA Charity is Motor Neuron.

Every year Maynooth Flower and Garden Club supports two charities; the operational AOIFA charity and a local one. Because WAFA IRELAND is such a huge undertaking, requiring access to large amounts of funds, AOIFA's normal charity has been replaced by WAFA Ireland and will continue to function in that way until June.  Over the past two years the club had held many activities to raise funds for WAFA Ireland, among them our Gala nights in 2012 and 2013, our wonderful day at Moyglare Stud Garden last July; a rather fun night when we enjoyed a Beetle Drive and fork supper in the North Kildare Club; our Bric a Brac table manned mainly by Felicity Satchwell at our monthly meetings. Not to mention our copper collection. This has raised, and continues to raise, a surprising amount of money.

‘Do Unto Others’, our Christmas activity was initiated in 2012.   For this project, our members made lots of Christmas items with which we decorated Maynooth Community Centre.  This brought much pleasure to the residents of the centre and therefore proved to be a very rewarding activity for our members.

Our local charity at the moment is St Bridget’s Hospice in Kildare. Last December for our 'Do Unto Others' night and in the run up to it, again we made Christmas items which were then sold at our Sale of Work on December 8th. All the money made at that event was passed on to the hospice to help with the building of the new wing which is currently in the process of being built.

In all of our activities our members are always very generous with their time, their money and their skills  and we are very grateful to them for that.
